lake life

arrival of the geese
morning water lilies
baby Heron
maybe a new textile pattern
fairy garden I made with my niece (this is the al fresco dining area)
possibly my favorite creature on the lake

It’s been a quiet summer on my blog. There’s been a lot going on and a great deal of contemplation as well. Most of you know that I left my New York apartment in the spring without a new home to move into. I wanted my next step to unfold in its own time and I can’t tell you how glad I am that I didn’t rush things. I’ve been staying with my family for the past six months, mostly at my parents' lake house in Pennsylvania where I have my make-shift studio set up. I always knew that I loved visiting the lake but this was my first extended stay here. I’ve been going for kayak rides every day and watching the family of Great Blue Herons that live here. I’m becoming quite a bird enthusiast which has really surprised me. These blessings, being connected to nature and living more simply, is now a way of life that I can’t see myself giving up. I’m looking for a place of my own at the lake and I have just the little cottage in mind. Hopefully, I’ll have some news and photos to share soon. In the mean time, Autumn is on the horizon and it’s time for a friend’s wedding, a few concerts, starting a new class and holiday market season! Embrace change, indeed.

  2. Lake life loveliness... the little cottage sounds lovely, hope it all pans out for you. I kind of did the opposite... left a sleepy headland to return to the city I grew up near and have also been with family for about 6 months... I know I'll eventually go back to the quieter life but am making the most of my surroundings and other things city life has to offer while I'm here.

  3. Thank you Ludid & Gaby.
I wonder too, Gaby, if I'll be drawn back to city life after 10...20 years. There's time enough for that, I suppose. Important thing is to make the most of where you are. Enjoy the spectacular city life!

  6. I think there is a new movement brewing, or perhaps one rekindling, a movement that sees artists leaving the cities for open spaces and natural surroundings and simple means. As more and more folks lean into the urban, I think artists are finding they need mental space from the influx of a new city population. I think at least that's what's happening for me. If Montana weren't so dang cold so much of the year, I think I would be finding my way up north to live on my mother's farm. But, as it is, I've found myself in New Mexico, working towards my dream of living on a little farm here with lovely seasons as well as lovely surroundings. I miss San Francisco, sometimes, and dream of a little studio apartment in New York City to quench my urban thirsts. But for now the choice is clear, as it seems it is for you, and I'm working toward a more humble, hidden life. Good luck!

P.S. I love your egret sketch and think it would make a lovely print.
